Who are we?

StARs stands for “Student Area Representatives” and is open to any student who will be attending the Ohio Educational Theatre Association (Ohio EdTA) NE Area Conference.

What do we do?

The chief function of StARs is to plan the Area Conference. Together, we design a conference theme, as well as opening and closing ceremonies.

Why?

If you love being involved in your thespian troupe and want more or if you have aspirations of becoming next year’s State Student Officer (SSO) for NE Area, this is your open door. It is from these students alone that the SSO will be chosen!

Any other perks?

Students who attend all three StARs meetings will receive full reimbursement for conference registration. (Students will register and pay as usual, but will receive a check mailed to them two weeks after the conference).

When and where do we meet?

• Saturday, October 16^th 1-4pm at Archbishop Hoban High School (1 Holy Cross Blvd, Akron, OH 44306).

• Saturday, November 13^th 1-4pm at Riverside Painesville High School (585 Riverside Dr, Painesville, OH 44077)

• Friday, December 3^rd 5-8:30pm at Riverside Painesville High School (overnight housing with Riverside Drama families will be available, if requested, for students traveling long distances)

• Saturday, December 4^th is the Area Conference at Riverside Painesville High School

The StARs program is sponsored by the Ohio Educational Theatre Association. Students will be under the supervision of the NE Area Representatives, Mrs. Laura Poje (Riverside) and Mr. Russ Kwitkowski (Hoban). Mrs. Poje and Mr. Kwitkowski are both high school teachers and troupe directors representing NE Ohio Thespians on the Board of OEdTA.

Russ and Laura here looking forward to a great 2010-11 Theatre Season.  With over 250 students in attendance at the 2010 NE Area Conference and over 20 students represented in STARS, we had a wonderful year last year.  But this year we're looking to step it up a notch with more schools in attendance and more students involved with STARs.  Any questions or suggestions should be emailed to Russ at rkwitkowski@ohedta.org.
